By associating the right rank with a plant template, we can find out to which branch of life the plant belongs. This has several effects.
First of all, our plant association system will take this plant into account. Plant associations necessarily require passing through "official" living beings, which are registered in our reference database (based on a scientific database). Once you have indicated the genetic rank of a plant template, it will be possible for our algorithms to know what type of plant it is and to integrate it into the calculation of plant associations.
In addition, we are likely to work with scientists to help them better understand living things. Within the framework of this collaboration, scientists can have access to your data after rigorous anonymisation and for scientific purposes only. By associating a rank, you can therefore make your data more useful to science!
Finally, by indicating the rank, it will be possible to navigate more easily through templates from all over the world! For each existing plant, it will soon be possible to go and consult the associated templates.
Ideally you should indicate the same rang as your plant. For example, if you are creating a card for Heart of Beef Tomatoes, then search this specific variety. If you find it, use it.
If you can't find the variety you are trying to create, then you can indicate the direct parent, i.e. the species. For example if you can't find the Heart of Beef Tomato, you can indicate the species "Tomato" as a phylogenetic rank.
If you do not find any species associated with the plant, you can indicate the family. In the case of the Tomato, this would be the Solanaceae.
If you don't know the species name for a variety, look up the variety name on Wikipedia. You will then be able to look up the associated species and get its Latin name, and use it for a search on the application.
